Reservations, anyone!!

I have an idea. Let's change the basic aim of the Indian Constitution from "establishing a secular, democratic republic with liberty, equality and fraternity" to " establishing a society hell-bent on repenting for its atrocious past!!"

The govt's idea to reserve seats for post-graduate(and super specialty) courses is ridiculous to say the least. On top of it the Honourable PM has the audacity to suggest to the private sector to consider such a move in employment!! And all this in the name of affirmative action!!! MY FOOT!!

We learnt in school that 'God helps those who help themselves'. So who are we helping by offering prime opportunities on a platter? I firmly believe that our reservation policy is nothing but bullshit. Whoever has heard of reserving seats for higher education?

I would like us to focus on the basic issue, that if the deprived classes were truly deprived, how would they even be able to afford primary education? And if a person has not been able to access primary education, what the hell do you do with the seat reserved for him in higher education? Let me provide an answer: use a politician's influence to gain that seat for your child, even if he does not deserve it and may leave the course halfway...

Wake up people - this IS the reality... India is being divided on caste lines- the general caste, whose forefathers commited the atrocities they are now repenting for, and the reserved caste, some of whom are enjoying benefits of votebank politics, whereas some others are having trouble just managing two square meals a day...

A simple way to go ahead with affirmative action is to make primary education absolutely free...maybe even secondary education, upto Std. 10th. Think about this,

  1. If basic education is available for free, which parents will deny their child that facility? And all we need is just to encourage in each child a craving to learn more...it will find it's own ways to gather knowledge
  2. This may also help to eradicate casteism from the very roots, b'coz children often learn about caste distinctions when they are young. And by the time they reach the age where they can decide whether to study further or not, they will hopefully be imparted with enough education to sustain themselves in the world.

Of course, this also entails a certain modification in the course structure of primary and secondary education...we only need to set the ball rolling, and the rest will take care of itself.
